Hang it two ways. Discover two meanings.

Most people don't know: All of my bear paintings are self-portraits.

This one, I made it obvious.

When the bear faces up, you see power—raw, wild, ancient. The eyes look directly at you. The fur burns with color and energy. A figure stands in a glowing portal below, small against the majesty of the beast.

Now flip it.

When the bear faces down, the composition inverts. The figure in the neon-green threshold becomes the focus. The bear becomes the background. And if you look closely—really look—you'll see: it's me. Standing in that portal. Between worlds. Between animal and human. Between what I was and what I'm becoming.

This is a self-portrait disguised as a bear.

But also: it's a landscape. The portal opens to mountains, sky, water. A complete visual world exists within the frame.

But also: it's surreal. Neon green against oil paint. Contemporary graphics meeting classical technique. Dreams and reality occupying the same space.

The Duality

Every meaningful thing contains its opposite. Power contains vulnerability. Animal contains human. Above contains below.

This painting asks: Which reading is true?

The answer: Both. Simultaneously.

The Series

I've painted bears for years. Each one a conversation with what "bear" means. Strength. Wildness. Protection. Danger. And always—hidden within—myself.

This is the first where I've made the self-portrait explicit. Where the viewer can see the technique, understand the concept, and still be moved by the image.

All of my bear paintings eventually sell. They sell because collectors recognize: these aren't just beautiful paintings. They're psychological documents.
